INSTRUCTION TO THE AUTHORS

The manuscripts regarding with hematological malignancies and oncology, written in English will be accepted to the Acta Oncologica Turcica, which is the scientific journal of Ankara Hematology Oncology Association.

The abbreviation of the Acta OncologicaTurcica is “Acta Oncol Tur.”.
Manuscripts that are not compatible with the journal format are sent back to the corresponding author without reviewer assignment.

During submission, all manuscripts should be checked primarily for plagiarism rate and grammatical rules. Except for the references section, the plagiarism rate should be below 20%. The author is responsible for obtaining the plagiarism report and the accuracy of the report obtained.

The scientific and the legal responsibilities belong to the authors. The copyrights of the publications belong to the Acta Oncologica Turcica. The authors are responsible for the content of the papers and for the accuracy of the references.

The authors must submit 'Copyright Transfer Form' during the submission of manuscript. By signing the 'Copyright Transfer Form' the authors guarantee the fact that the article has not been published nor under consideration for publication in whole or in part, elsewhere. The authors attest to the fact that they all have read the manuscript, attest to the validity and legitimacy of the data and its interpretation, and agree to its submission to the Acta Oncologica Turcica.

All research articles should be conducted in accordance with the Helsinki Declaration(revised in 2013) and manuscripts should include a statement that the research protocol was approved by the Institutional Ethical Committee or equivalent. Both the 'Informed Consent' and approval from ethical committee should be described in the 'Materials and Methods' section of the manuscript.
For peer-review process, a blind manuscript should be prepared by the author and submitted to the system as a separate file.

For the experimental animal studies, the authors must include a statement that they protect the animal rights according to the "Guide for the care and use of laboratory animals" (http://oacu.od.nih.gov/regs/guide/guide.pdf) and must obtain approval from Institutional Ethical Committee.

All sources of funds supporting the work and a statement of financial interest, if any, must be included, along with a list of all products, devices, drugs, etc., used in the manuscript. Each author must disclose at the time of submission any commercial associations or financial disclosures that might pose or create a conflict of interest. Such associations include consultancies, stock ownership, or other equity interests, and payments for conducting a study described in the manuscript. Authors must disclose any funding received for the work from any organizations within the cover letter to the editor. The statement of conflict of interest should also be added at the end of the main text.
All the manuscripts are evaluated by editor-in chief, associate editors, and managing editors before evaluation of at least two reviewers. The reviewers are chosen from the consultants specified in the journal, and if necessary, from the national or the international experts of that specific issue. The authors accept the fact that editor-in chief, associate editors, biostatistics expert and English language expert can edit the manuscript unless they do not change the main subject of the manuscript.

If a scientific and/or ethical misconduct or such an accuse is encountered, the journal keeps the rights of referring the matter for investigation to the author's academic institution or hospital, to the appropriate state or local disciplinary body, and/or to the Ethics Committee. The journal takes the responsibility of tracking the matter properly but does not undertake the authority of carrying out the real investigation or deciding about the mistake.

Manuscript preparation rules were managed under the guidence of 'Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals: Writing and Editing for Biomedical Publication' (http://www.icmje.org/). The manuscripts which do not fit to the formatting criterion of the journal are returned to the corresponding authors.

GENERAL RULES

Only the manuscripts submitted on-line is accepted for consideration of publication. The authors should register to the web page of the Journal Agent (http://www.journalagent.com/tod/) and get an account. This system enables online submission and evaluation of the manuscript. The manuscripts collected via this way are accepted by the system according to the rules of ICMJE, PubMed and ULAKBÝM-Turkey Citation Index and archived. The manuscripts which are not accepted for publication are not returned to the authors except for artistic images.

The manuscripts should be prepared in Microsoft Word program by the Times New Roman style at 12 point-size with double space, leaving 2.5 cm. space on each side of an A4 page. Abbreviations should be described where they are first used and should be used throughout the text. The authors should not use abbreviations within the abstract. The authors can consult the 'scientific writing style and formatting' resource for internationally used abbreviations.

COVER LETTER TO THE EDITOR- IN CHIEF: Type of the manuscript, a statement indicating that the manuscript has not been submitted elsewhere, all sources of external funds supporting the work and all corporate affiliations of the authors, if any, should be indicated. TITLE PAGE:Title page is the section which includes the title of the manuscript, names of the authors, and information about the authors. This document should be uploaded as separate file. The following definitions should be included in turn:
  1. Title of the manuscript (both in English and Turkish)
  2. Names of the authors (Names of the authors should be written without any abbreviation. Academic degrees of the authors should not be included)
  3. Affiliations
  4. ORCID ID information and e-mail address of the authors
  5. Name, address, phone number, fax number, e-mail address of the corresponding author
  6. If the study has been presented in a scientific congress, date and location information of the related scientific congress should be provided.

Cover letter and title page should be included in all original articles and case reports.
Figures and tables should not be included within the body of the main text.They should be uploaded separately under the name of 'figures' and 'tables'.

BIOSTATISTICS

To ensure the accountability of the findings of the study, study design, sampling, scientific approaches and applications should be described. The references should be provided.

P value of significance, type of the error, and confidence interval should be provided. All statistical terms, abbreviations and symbols should be explained. The software used for the statistics should be indicated. Statistical terminology (random, correlation, significance, etc.) should not be used in non-statistical means.

The results of the statistical analysis should be included within the 'Results' section as tables, figures or graphics. Type of the statistical method and the details of the work should be presented within the 'Materials and Methods' section.

TYPE OF MANUSCRIPTS

ORIGINAL ARTICLES

Original articles comprise clinical studies, clinical observations, new techniques, experimental and laboratorystudies. Original articles should contain the sections of title, abstract, keywords, introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion, acknowledgements, references, tables, graphics, figures. Title, abstract and keywords should be written in English and in Turkish.All the other sections should be written only in English. If the foreign authors do not prepare a Turkish title, Turkish abstract and Turkish keywords, the editorial board will have the rights to prepare their Turkish versions.

ABSTRACT

Abstract should be prepared both in Turkish and English. It should be limited to 250 words. Original articles should have structured abstract. For other types of submissions, it should be unstructured. No reference should be indicated. Abbreviations should be avoided as possible. If an abbreviation is done, it should be arranged free from the main text. The abstract should be structured in original articles as follows:

Background:The purpose of the study should be clearly explained.

Material and Methods:The following issues of the study should be defined: Standard criteria, whether it is randomizedor not, whether it is retrospective or prospective, type of statistical analysisif applicable.

Results:The results of the study should be given with the degree of statistical significance.

Conclusion:The conclusion should reflect the results of the study, define the clinical applicability, and indicate positive and negative sides of the study.

KEYWORDS:Two to five keywords should follow the abstract. English keywords should be written according to Medical Subject Headings (MESH) (www.nlm.nih.gov/mesg/MBrowser.html). Turkish keywords should be the exact translation of MESH terms.

INTRODUCTION

Short and explanatory information about the topic should be given, which should be supported by literature

MATERIAL AND METHODS

The study plan should be explained in details; whether it is a randomized or non-randomized, retrospective or prospective study, the number and characteristics of patients, inclusion and exclusion criteria, and type of statistical analysis.

RESULTS

The results should be given and evaluated according to statistical analysis method. Tables and figures should be provided with the consecutive numbers.

DISCUSSION

The results should be discussed with the positive and negative sides. They should be compared with the literature.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

Any conflict of interest, financial support, grant and other type of editorial and/or technical support including biostatistics and language editing should be added at the end of the main text.

REFERENCES

The authors are responsible for the validity of the references. They should be numbered at the end of the sentence before the dot according to the order of sequence in the square brackets. If the number of the authors is equal or less than six, all the authors should be written in the reference. If the number of the authors is more than six, first three of the authors should be written and then the term 'et al' should be added. Oral or poster presentations - if not published within a supplementary volume of a journal, unpublished material, thesis, personal communications should not be included in the reference section. If such a reference will be used, it should be indicated at the end of the sentence in which it is mentioned, within parenthesis without using any number.
Abstract (Turkish and English), key words, main text and references should be uploaded as a single file.

Figures, Tables and Graphics A maximum of 6 tables / graphics / figures / pictures in total will be accepted for case reports and original articles.

Figures and Figure Legends: Figures should be numbered consecutively and described shortly. If a figure is reprinted from another source, reprint permission should be provided. High resolution images are acceptable. Pictures and photos should be saved as JPEG file at a resolution of 500 pixels with at least 300 dpi.

Tables and Graphics: All the tables and graphics should be numbered consecutively and described shortly and be prepared via Microsoft Word. Abbreviations should be described as footnote. Tables should be prepared to make the main text more descriptive and understandable. Tables should not repeat the main text.

Tables should be captioned at the bottom, while graphics and figures should be captioned at the top. Figure and photograph captions should be added at the end of the main text, after the references.

All the visual material should be submitted as separate files, not within the body of main text. Figure legends, and table legends should be added at the end of the main text after references.

CASE REPORTS

Case reports should include rarely seen cases which show differences in diagnosis and treatment and which add new scientific insights to the classic knowledge. Title both in Turkish and English, unstructured abstract which does not exceed 150 words, and keywords should be found in the first page. Introduction, case report, discussion and references shouldfollow the first page. Styling is the same as original articles. Informed consent form should be declared in case reports. The number of the references should be 15 at maximum.

REVIEWS

Only reviews of invited authors will be accepted.Reviews are the type of articles which deeply evaluate a current subject without putting forward any idea. Title, both in Turkish and English, unstructured abstract which does not exceed 250 words,and keywords should be found in the first page. Every quotation used in the manuscript should be referenced.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Letter to editor should be prepared as a manuscript which deeply evaluates the current developments both scientifically and socially, and which especially involves contributions or questions for the articles submitted in the journal of Acta OncologicaTurcica. It should not exceed 1000 words and should have references section. No more than 5 references are allowed. It does not involve title or abstract sections.
