Abstract

INTRODUCTION

Benign and malignant tumors of the musculoskeletal system may be related to important neurovascular structures. Therefore some surgical procedures are applied with cardiovascular surgery. In this study, demographic examination of the tumors which may be related to neurovascular structures is aimed.

METHODS

Between 2010 and 2014, 56 patients who were operated with cardiovascular surgeon due to musculoskeletal tumors in orthopedics and traumatology clinic were included in the study. Patients were examined for age, sex, benign / malignant features, bone-soft tissue location, histopathological diagnosis and tumor localization.

RESULTS

Among 30 male and 28 female patients with a mean age of 36 ± 17 std (2-76 years), 15 patients had benign and 43 patients had malignant tumors. The most common tumor was a malignant mesenchymal tumor and it was seen in 14 cases. The most common benign tumor was osteochondroma and it was found in 6 cases. The most common localization was the femur and it was seen in 13 cases in total.

DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION

Tumors that are closely related to the neurovascular structure and therefore are operated with cardiovascular surgeon can be seen in a wide range of age. These are often malignant tumors. The most common localitazions are thigh and knee.
