Abstract

Rare side effect of Hookah Smoking; Carbon Monoxide Poisoning: Case Report Carbon monoxide poisoning is a very important cause of morbidity, especially in winter at our country. Approximately 50-75% of those discharged leave neurological or psychiatric sequelae. In our country, it is not possible to refer every patient with carbon monoxide poisoning to a center where hyperbaric oxygen treatment is performed. Patients with carbon monoxide poisoning can be treated with 100% oxygen or hyperbaric oxygen. As in this case, good supportive treatment is life-saving. Hookah is widely smoked among young people in recent years. Carbon monoxide (CO) intoxication is rare in hookah smokers. In this report, we present a 19-year-old male patient who was brought to the emergency department by 112 emergency with fainting and hypotension following CO intoxication after smoking a hookah. patient's carboxyhemoglobin level was detected 43% at admission. The use of hookah and smoke exposure should be questioned in depth ın terms of carbon monoxide (CO) intoxication, especially in young patients presenting with nonspecific complaints such as fainting, blurred consciousness, fatigue, weakness, and vigilance.
