Abstract
Because of their good bioavailability, minimal toxicity, effect on Enterobacteriaceae (especially on Pseudomonas spp.) and staphylococci quinolones are frequently used in treatment of orthopedic infections. İn this study quinolon susceptibility were evaluated in cultures obtained from orthopedic patients in January 2005-September 2006 period. ûuinolon susceptibility were tested in 132 isolated microorganisms, 67 ofthem (50.76%) were susceptibie and 65 isolates (49.24%) were found to be resistant to quinolons. ûuinolon resistance among gram-negatives was 45.68 percent and in gram-positives ıvas 54.90 percent according to these data approximately half of isolated microorganisms in our study (gram-negative or gram-positive) were resistant against quinolon. Quinolon should be carefully used as empirical prophylactic agent for prevention of increasing resistance.
