Abstract

Brenner tumors are usually small, asymptomatic, and found incidentally. Large tumors show clinical signs of pelvic masses such as palpable mass or pain. Clinically, it can be confused with many pathologies in radiological imaging such as fibroma, tecoma or other ovarian tumors, type 7 myoma (stalked subserous myoma), hydatid cyst, gastrointestinal (GI) mesenchymal tumors, and other GI neoplasms. In computed tomography scans (CTs), they usually do not have specific findings except that they contain solid components and calcification (which can be large and amorphous) (10). Imaging methods help us to determine the location of the tumor together with tumor size, and our surgical approach. The difficulty in pre-operative diagnosis of Brenner tumor, which is one of the rare tumors of the ovary, causes it to be confused with other intra-abdominal pathologies. Therefore, it is required to evaluate them histopathologically with diagnostic methods (laparoscopy, ultrasound-guided biopsy, etc.) or open surgical procedures. Since more than one possible pathologies and diffuse ascites appearance were stated in the CT report of our case, diagnostic laparoscopy was preferred for differential diagnosis. The mass in our case contained large cystic areas, so it was confused with massive acid and ovarian cancer. Diagnosis achieved through diagnostic laparoscopy. These pathologies must be considered in young patients.
